FAQ

Colors are only approximate due to the nature of the enameling process.

If you order a Combo or a GFI Combo you must tell us if the socket/GFI is on the right or on the left.

How do I select colors?

Colors are possibly the most difficult part of ordering a switchplate because we have so many available.  We have one color of each design shown and you may order this color if you wish. We can do many other colors however. Often customers will send us sampleswhich we will then use to make the plates. Or you can send us a message and tell us what color you would like. Because colors are so difficult to describe in words, however, it is best to provide a voice phone number so that we can call you to discuss the color choice.  Here are a few samples of custom color swatches our customers sent us, the plates we made for them:

How long will my order take?

There is no set time as to how long your order will take. If we are very busy with shows it will take longer. If you order something that is in stock, you may get it within 2 or 3 days. The average wait time is about 2 weeks. During the busiest season, before Christmas, it can be as long as 6 weeks. Please bear with us. These switchplates are handmade, just for you. Good things take time.

Who are we?

In enameling, ground glass is applied by hand to a metal backing.  The piece is then fired in a kiln at 1200-1300 degrees Fahrenheit for about four or five minutes.  The glass melts, fuses to the backing and acquires a fine, glossy finish.  Enameling has been performed for thousands of years by many cultures.
Adrienne Blum Enamels uses many of the same hand methods that been used since antiquity. All of her work is of her own designs.
We live near Charlottesville, Virginia within sight of the Blue Ridge.

Are they fragile?

Our switchplates are enamel. Enamel is powdered
glass and glass is fragile. For this reason,
our plates will chip if dropped on a surface
like concrete. Also it is advisable  not to
tighten the mounting screws too tight to avoid
chipping. For this reason, we supply you with
nylon mounting screws which are much  safer than
metal ones. Once you get the plates on the wall
however they will last a very long time. They
also can be cleaned over and over with soap and
water so they are ideal for kitchens and baths

How much is shipping?

If your plate(s) can be shipped using a padded envelope and weight is less than 13 oz then shipping is $4.00. If you need a box or if weight exceeds 13oz then shipping is $9.
